Course Description

This course explains the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals. GHS is a harmonized system for the classification and labeling of chemicals and communicating the health, physical and environmental hazards.

Introduction to the GHS
- Explain what GHS is and what it is used for
- Explain why a global system is needed
- Explain who created the GHS
- Explain how the GHS is organized
Hazard Classification
- Explain the three types of hazards: Health, Physical and Environmental
- Explain that Environmental Hazards are not under OSHA jurisdiction and are not covered in this class.
- List the 10 Health Hazards and discuss each in detail
- List the 16 Physical Hazards and discuss each in detail
Hazard Communication Tools
- Explain the GHS rules for labels
- Explain the GHS pictograms
- Explain the use of Signal Words, Hazard Statements, Precautionary Information and Order of Precedence
- Explain Safety Data Sheets. How they are organized and how to read them
